Booking Of Prohibited Items & It's Transmission through Air

In the recent past several incidents have been brought in the notice of the Postal Directorate by some airlines, where prohibited items viz; lithium batteries, oxygen cans etc. have been booked as Speed Post Parcels by some circles and these consignments have caught fire/exploded during the course of handling and loading in the aircraft. These incidents could have led to serious mishaps.

It is therefore important that, instructions issued earlier to ensure that prohibited items are not booked and transmitted through air, must be scrupulously followed without any exception. It is once again reiterated that the items prohibited as per IATA regulations I Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) should not be booked through post offices and other booking offices nor transported by air.

These Prohibited items include:
(a) Explosives
(b) Compressed, liquefied gas
(c) Flammable liquids
(d) Flammable solids and substances
(e) Oxidizing substances
(f) Toxic and infectious substances
(g) Radioactive material
(h) Corrosives
(i) Organic Peroxides
(j) Lithium batteries
(k) Infectious substances
(I) Magnetized materials
(m) Oxygen
(n) Miscellaneous dangerous goods (including asbestos, dry ice, engines)

Items prohibited for transmission through post mentioned in Post Office Guide Part 1, Indian Post Office Act, 1898, and Indian Post Office Rules 1933 will also not be booked through post offices and other booking offices. At the time of booking of any electronic item though Speed Post /Registered Post a declaration should invariably be obtained from the customer and kept safely at the booking office.
